Welcome to the Audubon Center and Sanctuary, owned and operated by Jamestown Audubon Society, Inc. whose mission is to connect people to the planet through educational experiences at the center and throughout the region. In 2008 we received the Chautauqua County award for Innovative Energy Initiatives for our efforts to cut our electricity consumption by 36% through the installation of solar panels, retrofitting of light fixtures, and conversion of old appliances to EnergyStar efficient. Our Center features displays on energy saving and solar energy.
Our facilities include over five miles of beautifully maintained trails on a 600-acre wetland preserve. Our 3-story nature center building contains a nature store, a small collection of live fish, reptiles and amphibians, and interactive displays that inform and engage visitors of all ages. In addition, we care for a non-releasable bald eagle named Liberty, who provides us with many teaching and learning opportunities.
It is our hope that visitors will feel a deeper connection to the natural world and a deeper sense of wanting to care for it as a result of their visit to our Center.
Throughout the year, we offer a wide variety of events and programs to people of all ages. Call to schedule programs for schools, scouts, youth groups, garden clubs, senior citizen clubs… any group you belong to! Or attend one of our festivals, events, or programs offered to the public. Our facilities are also available to rent for your special occasion. We have hosted weddings, family reunions, graduation parties, work-related workshops and retreats and much more.
Whether you need a quiet walk to relax and recharge, a resource for learning about the natural world and how to care for it, or a place to meet and socialize with like-minded friends, Audubon is the place for you! We look forward to meeting you.
