Liberty
Liberty, a non-releasable bald eagle, came to live at the Center on June 1, 2002. She is on display in her own enclosure behind the Nature Center building. Found in Washington state with an infected cut on her left wing, she spent a year in re-hab with the hope of returning to the wild.
Liberty can fly short distances inside her habitat.
Unfortunately, the muscle damage in her wing prevents her from flying well enough to hunt in the wild. She will spend her life with us under the care of a dedicated crew of volunteers.
There is no charge to visit Liberty; you may come any day from dawn until dusk. It doesn’t matter the season of the year, either. Liberty grows extra feathers in winter and doesn’t seem to mind the snow.
Donations are always welcome to help with Liberty’s care. Each fall, a 5K trail walk/run is held to raise money. This event, called the Run for Liberty, is supplemented by a penny drive called “Lincolns for Liberty.”
